Appeal allowed – Cornwall chalet extension

Planning permission has been allowed at appeal for a small extension to a chalet on a Cornish coastline. The Council originally relied on outdated prescriptive policies that did not consider the actual impact on the setting of the site. The appeal found in favour of the proposals noting the location of the development was of limited impact to public views of the area, having a consequently limited effect on the landscape it sits within. Whilst this is a small development in itself it was important for the owners of the chalet and provided valuable space for them. The arguments in this case were interesting as it challenged the use of old policies and considered the effect of the proposals on the character of the landscape, the latter being the actual purpose of the policies.
